Struggling to Do Right

Bible Verse: Rom 7: 14-20

We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does i

JMR's Words Of Wisdom

Many of Paul’s letter are hard hitting in my opinion. In the letter to the church above, he talks about the conflict/struggle within himself. This is one of the things I love above Paul. Although he was highly favored and had much knowledge, he recognized that he was still flawed in many ways.
.
He struggled with situations just like the common man. He never pretended to be a super holy Christian but he was clearly in tune with the duality of doing good and doing evil (sin). He was rooted in God but still struggled as a man to do good. Paul recognized that even when he knew it was sin, he still struggled to do the right thing.
.
Many of us are similar to Paul. We sometimes don’t understand what we do. We want to do right but we don’t do it. But what we know we should not do, we end up doing. Paul says that if he does what he does not want to do (i.e. sin) then the law is good, meaning you are judged by the law.
.
Paul breaks it down so eloquently when he says he has the desire to do what is good BUT he does not carry it out. How many times have we found ourselves in a position like this. Having the desire to do good but for some reason it does not get done.
.
I say all this to say that even someone as Blessed and favored as Paul struggled in his daily life to do good.
.
Remember, it takes a long time to grow old friends…Be Blessed
