Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. As I look at these few versus from Paul, it becomes fairly obvious what he is trying to convey. I’ve heard many times that when you’re trying to live righteously that is when the devil comes on attack. It makes sense if you think about it. Why would the devil come after you if you are living foul and not obeying God’s commandments.

As Christians we need to realize that just being saved is not enough. That is the first step in a long, long journey. In fact, some might say its the easiest step.

In the text, Paul is urging us to fully embrace God’s word in every aspect. The devil, as he puts it has many “schemes” to throw us off track. If we are immersed in the Word, we can distinguish these “schemes” before they topple us. I believe the full armor entails so many things: discernment, patience, strength, love, mercy and so much more.

I urge you to stay in the Word, take bits and pieces of it to chew on. Learn, increase your wisdom and understand how to circumvent the devil before he can set up his schemes. See him coming from a distance and already be prepared for his mischief.
