Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
JMR's Words Of Wisdom
Now this passage although short is complex. It tells us that as men we are to love and respect our wives equally always being considerate in our actions and words. When the passage speaks of “weaker”, do not mis-read or mis-interpret these words and surely don’t tell your wife the Bible said you are the weaker
My take is that wives/women are very complicated and complex. When the passage says weaker, I believe it is talking about weaker in the sense of being swayed emotionally. God gave man the ability to exact facts and make decisions based on those facts while woman often make decisions based on emotions.
This trait might be seen as a weakness BUT GOD can even make our weakness, our strengths. This same trait allows our wives to show love, compassion and nurturing to our children and others. God made man the head of the household for his ability to bare many burdens and still stand up to the task.
Together both husband and wife are heirs to the kingdom. It is stated that we, men, are to love our wives as Jesus loved the church. Surely, if we follow suit, we are that much closer to the kingdom.
Remember, it takes a long time to grow old friends.
