Worship

Bible Verse: Rom 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The Message (translation – verse 1): So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking around life and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.

We often hear the term praise and worship in church. I got to thinking about these terms. In the text above Paul brings the “worship” aspect front and center to the Romans. He urges his fellow brothers to put before God their entire body of work. Basically submit everything you do before God, put all aspects of your life before God, good and bad.
.
It’s interesting that when you look up the definition of both praise and worship, neither is used as a synonym for each other which I initially thought would be a no-brainer. But there is a fine line or distinction between the words.
.
I believe Paul recognized this and choose his words accordingly. In my opinion, praise, is an act that most people do “after” something has been done for them or in their favor. We give praise to people for a physical action.
.
While worship is something we do regardless of any beneficial act towards us. Paul says that our spiritual act is to present ourselves to God just as we are. Not waiting until we get in the church, not waiting until we get saved, not waiting until we drop those habits but immediately w/o preoccupation of your worthiness

Remember, it takes a long time to grow old friends….
